"The Lottery" Blog 1 Madison Klump
Last week we read an article called "The Lottery" (1948) by Shirley Jackson. The article started out by talking about a warm and beautiful summer day in a small town. It went on to talk about a meeting that was taking place in the small town. It also talked about the small black box that was getting worn out and how they should make a new one. The story soon have a plot twist. The story soon became sad and depressing. The meeting was to choose what person in the town that was going to get stoned. Tessie was the one that was drawn to get stoned. The towns people believed that stoning someone would help there crops grow better.
During class on Monday, September 11 we met with our groups. In our groups we talked about the articles that we read. Each person in our group had a roll to do. My roll was liberary theorist. For my part I was supposed to make a connection between the article and the book called How To Interpret Literature. I miss understood what I was supposed to do so my group helped me connect things from both readings that we had to read.
Lastly, my connection to question five is that the people in the article "The Lottery" believe that it was okay to stone someone to death that didn't do anything wrong. Which is kind of like what happened to the Jews. They believe that the Jews should be killed just because they were Jewish.
